See the library and desk of Dr. Hiram L. True (a former Civil War Surgeon who settled in McConnelsville in the early 1870’s to practice medicine).
Explore the summer kitchen, inspect the artwork that adorn the walls, admire the shelves cluttered with keepsakes from Mrs. Button’s trips to the “orient.”
Filled with local artwork, period clothing, dishes and authentic quilts and lines - it is perhaps the most “complete” Victorian home you will ever experience. Most of the furniture was donated by the McConnel and True families.
Mrs. Button was born in this home in 1875 and died in the same bed in 1975. But in between - oh what a life she lived! The great-granddaughter of General McConnel, founder of McConnelsville, the daughter of Dr. True, Mrs. Button traveled the world and worked for women’s rights. (family history).
Call (740) 962-4785 for more details. The home is open to the public Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday - 1 to 3 p.m.
